This talk focuses on using lean 6-sigma principles and risk management to drive robustness and reliability for the entire product lifecycle of medical devices. Special attention is given to designing and qualifying processes and their continuous verification across multiple contexts and multiple scalar domains in an environment of exponentially increasing complexity.

Byron Mattingly, PhD, MBA, PMP Principal Software Quality Engineer, Boston Scientific

Dr. Byron Mattingly has over 12 years experience working as a systems, quality and software project manager and engineer in pharma, healthcare IT and medical devices. He is a PMP, an HL7 Certified Control Specialist, an ANSI-ASQ ISO 17025 Certified Lead Assessor, and is certified by the American Society of Quality as a Biomedical Auditor, Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence, Quality Auditor, Reliability Engineer, Software Quality Engineer and a Six Sigma Black Belt.

Dr. Mattingly graduated with a bachelor’s from Princeton University, cum laude, and holds a PhD from Stony Brook, an MPhil from University of St Andrews (Scotland), and an MBA from University of Massachusetts; he is currently pursuing his Master’s in Public Health at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Dr. Mattingly is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma.
