We have heard about how developers use sprints as an agile tool to get the code shipped. How about using a similar concept for innovating on an idea? Ideas are abundant and many times teams struggle to figure out which ideas to pursue. Design Sprints use a design-thinking-like process to understand which ideas are worth moving to the next steps.
A design sprint is a 5-step process for solving business problems through design, prototyping, and testing with users. In this interactive workshop you'll learn:
How to research an idea's merit from a customer's perspective
How to gain insights from that data (and how different the data may be from what you might expect)
Modifying, evolving or killing an idea based on that research, prototyping and feedback
How to define the problem and discover insights focusing on the problem that needs to be addressed, what is currently known, and what more information is necessary
You’ll have an opportunity to have hands on experience with these activities and tools:
Scenarios & Storyboarding
Make a prototype that can test the core assumptions of the Design Sprint Activities

About the Speaker:
Richard Banfield, Co-founder and CEO , Fresh Tilled Soil
Richard is a the CEO and co-founder of Fresh Tilled Soil. After completing a degree in Biology, Richard was attracted to the world of web technologies and worked his way up the digital food chain, starting with online ad sales at MultiChoice, Africa’s largest TV and Internet media business. He was in the thick of it during the dot-com years, co-founding Acceleration, an international advertising technology business headquartered in London (now owned by advertising giant WPP).
Under Richard’s leadership Fresh Tilled Soil has delivered digital product design, business strategy, and workshops to 650+ clients across the world. His colorful life experience includes being an officer in the army and being a dive master on the remote Islamic Republic of the Comoros, where he learned the survival skills he uses daily in the fast paced tech world. Richard is a mentor at several incubators and accelerators as well as Advisor and lecturer at the Startup Institute.
Richard recently published two books. Design Leadership is his second book published by O’Reilly. The first was Design Sprint: A Practical Guidebook for Building Great Digital Products, which he coauthored with CTodd Lombardo and Trace Wax.
